Throttle body swap gone wrong, HELP ASAP!

So i put the V8 throttle body on today, all went well. went to start it up and ZOOOOM right to 2,000 rpm. went back and retraced my steps. found the IAC gasket cracked so i replaced it. went to try it again and ZOOOMM 2,000 rpm.

so then i swapped the TPS from the old I6 TB to the V8 TB, was using my original I6 TPS. no difference. i also unplugged the TPS connector and the same **** happens.

so now im dumbfounded as to what is causing it to idle at 2,000 rpm.

Throttle held partially open by the cable? Or by the base idle adjusting screw? Something (maybe the part of the TB that hits the intake support bracket bolt?) preventing the TB from sealing against the intake?

i didnt even have that support bracket LOL so that isnt holding me up.

cable was off during some of my testing and no change. i thought about the base idle screw but it sure looks like those blades are closed to me, tighter than a bulls *** as far as i can see.

Im guessing vacuum leak. mine jumped to 1500 a couple times. once it was the vacuum tree not tight. second time, the two vapor return lines at the top of the TB werent connected, oops.

Did you do any port work in the bores?

port work to the bores of?

i thought the IAC gasket was bad so i replaced it, same problem.
i swapped IACs, same problem.
i tore it apart and checked the TB and the butterflies, same problem.
i switched the TPS out, same problem.
i disconnected the TPS, same problem.
i disconnected the IAC, same problem.
i sprayed ether around everything i could, same problem.
i capped off the EVAP on the bottom of the TB, same problem.
i removed the linkage, same problem.

im at a loss here, really. the TB to intake mating surfaces are clean, flat and uniform. im at my wits end here and ready to throw the dam TB in the garbage and go back to stock. i mean ****, it has to be a pretty big vacuum leak after the TB for it to run at 2,000 rpm in park and 1,100 rpm in drive. all i can think is the gasket itself isnt enough or something is wrong with the IAC but i cant figure it out.

yes i did.

alright guys i took it apart one last time. i RTV'd the IAC to the TB and cleaned/filed everything again for good measure. i went over basically everything and upon checking for the 7th time i noticed the bracket that sits on the throttle stop was bent ever-so-slightly...like a **** hair. i held it up to the light and i couldnt even see the change in the TB opening. i bent it a little, threw it back together and whatdayaknow? it idles at 900 rpm in park and 6-700 in drive.

i took it for a ride, driving impressions after i upload and post pics.

did you port and grind your intake manifold (use a roto tool or a air dye grinder) to fit the larger opening of the v8 TB??? if not id reccomend doing that because itll drag your airflow down, also i want to do this swap also, let me know if you notice a difference in mpg ok, PEACE!

No, you just are a jerk to people when your confusing-*** posts stump people.

Silver Streak posted:"Did you try it with the IAC unplugged?" in post #6.

And your answer, the way I read it was:"yes i did." in #7 Making it look like you answered #6. So really, you didn't answer post #4, hence why he asked if you port matched it.

Start reading and stop being such an *** to people. You are not a 4.9 god, nor are you the administrator of this website. All of this stuff you are doing to your 300 now others and myself have done years ago and were covered in other posts, not to mention that the problems you have had in this post were covered before, where you employ your usual post of "try searching for it" and no-one pulled it on you where they should have.

i still think u have a secret fetish for me, otherwise u wouldnt poke ur nose in my threads

either way, i am no 4.9 god. if i was i certainly wouldnt still be at the point i am at now.

did others do what i did before? definatly. have others documented as well as i am trying to do? not that well.

but hey, its been fun trading insults but my TV show is coming on soon. maybe ur next reply will spark some more of my interest, if not this will be the last time i post on the thread directed at you. its been fun playing the "internet ranking system" game. where do i collect my cookie?

BTW, i did answer #4 posts question with another question in my next reply but he didnt answer my questions so i could answer his question before i resolved my problem. which come to think of it i should have taken a picture of the arm bent because it was so small even my dad and friend didnt see it until i showed them, which i verified by placing it on the anvil part of the vice on our work bench. i guess i dropped the linkage arm at work one day and forgot to check it. oh well
