Acetone???

Have any of you heard of adding acetone to your fuel tank to increase mileage. I read about it a while back and figured it was another BS snake oil formula. well I tried it on one tank and there seems to be some truth to the matter.

What I read (i will try to find the article and pass it along) was, when you add one ounce of acetone per ten gallons of fuel, gas or diesel, you get better mileage. Everybody is looking for less time at the pump right.

DO NOT over treat though. It will have a negative effect on mileage.

My only concern so far is that there would be a loss of lubricity(bad)

I am no chemist but the acetone is supposed to allow the molecules of the fuel to separate and atomize easier. (somebody here can probably clarify the technical mumbo-jumbo) What that translates into is your engine having an easier time making power.

I have no official results yet but I will let you know what happens. Either I blow my truck up or I get better MPGs.

Thought I would pass that info along. Let me know what you guys think.

Personally, I wouldn't do it.
