Exclamation Help!!!

Hi All,

This is my first post so I am going to make it a good one. I own a 99 Ford Expedition and have ran into a few probles. I searched through the forum and was unable to locate the answers to my questions.

Question 1 My first question is regarding the replacement of the lug bolts. I broke a bolt off while replacing a tire. I took out the old bolt and now am unable to insert the new one from the back. It seems that the backing plate will not allow for a bolt to be inserted from the back.

Question 2 There was some damage to the backing plate on my rear brakes. Here is a picture of the part I am speaking of:

I tried to remove this piece, but was unable to. It seems to me that in order to remove the backing plate you must take off the hub. If you have any information on how to remove this piece I would appreciate it. Thanks for the help.

Did you try removing that nut in the center of the hub?

Then you have to pull off the differential cover, release the axle retainer, and then slide the axle out. The hub and axle are one solid piece.

Ok that is what I was thinking I would have to do. Thanks for your help. I couldn't imagine that I would have to do all this to remove the lug bolts. Do you have any idea how to take those out without removing the backing plate?

I can't say that I've ever had to remove an axle just to change a lug. Sometimes I've had to start them on an angle and work them in, or try several different positions around the backing plate to find an area that gave a little bit more room. Also, if you compare your new stud to one of the existing ones, are they the same length?

You could also try turning the axle.

if you are able to get the new stud in without pulling the axel you will still need to pull the new stud into place this may take some flat washers and a nother stud nut most stud nuts are pressed into place but you will be pulling this into place
