tranny pull
i have been regreting this time, but it is time to pull the tranny and repalce my fly wheel. i was hoping it would not come to this, replaced the starter and was hoping it would last. the dead gum teeth look fine from what i can see. well i was wondering if anyone could give me steps or hints to make this a eaiser job. it is on a 79 ,150, 4x4 with a 4 speed on a 351. this is my first ford truck to be working on, i got a deal on it, like i ahve stated in post before. post.

Are you 100% sure that their is any teeth missing on your ring gear. Some thing you might try first before taking your tranny out is ,remove you starter and get a socket and a swing bar and spin your motor over by hand on the end of the crankshaft and inspect the ring gear . If you don't want to pull motor and you have or can get a engine lift . You can lift both tranny and transfer case though the floor if you remove your seat and floor pan cover if that truck has one. It can be done but need to be careful .The truck that I use to own before I bought it , A fellow was changing the transfer case and it fell off the tranny jack and broke his leg.Aj46

have not checked the teeth on the ring af of yet. will do taht for sure before i pull it. the new starter i put in worked fine for awhile,( still in the process of getting my motor running right) have not driven it much at all. I would say it has about 12 starts on the new starter before it started actting like the old one. even when it was new it did not sound jsut right. made a grinding type sound, alouth it was not bad, it did make one. jsut guessing it was the the fly wheel.
