No one is buying new trucks..... so they certainly arent buying up used trucks. I have heard from a few dealers that there are TONS of trucks on the auction circuit right now, and some of them arent even receiving a single bid....
You can pick up a 2004 SuperCab XLT 5.4 4x2 for around 5-7K private party. Blue book doesn't do it justice because the truck market is saturated and resale is just tanking. Its a buyers market out there for any large truck or suv.

That may be the case if your looking for a used vehicle. Many dealers are sticking to thier prices on new trucks and SUV's.
It really sucks to know that you can pay below invoice for a new rig and you'll be upside down before the ink dries on the contract.
I personally don't care if the '09's come out now or ever. I'm more concerned with the possibility of more displaced workers due to the stupidity and greed of the auto manufacturers in general, Ford being NO exception.
As far as I'm concerned, if your rig is a few years old or older, has mechanical issues but in good shape, invest in an engine / transmission swap and get another 5 years out of her.
In the perfect world, we'd all buy new trucks and trade them in before the first set of tires wears out.
I'm truely blessed with having a military retirement and a good Post Office job and I still consider a NEW well equipped truck to be beyond my reach.
I'm going to buy an '09 Focus and continue enjoying my '88 on an "as need" basis.
WHAT resale value? The car industry is in a major deprerssion IMHO. New care prices are being undercut with special rebates which REDUCES their worth after one leaves the dealer. And what's this do to used prices? The same thing.

VIVA LA OLD AND PAID FOR TRUCKS!

I hear you there. Between me and the wife, we make around 85ish before bonuses, OT, and my lawn business and I still would not consider even a modestly equiped XLT F150 to be affordable.

unless you have a Prius that sells more used than new go figure!
Some cars and trucks hold their values better when gas is expensive. Toyota Tacoma 4cyl trucks are still holding their values compared to anything with a V8.

For that matter, all the 4 bangers are doing well in sales and "resale". Some better than others such as the hybrids. I'm giving my daughter my Taurus next spring and getting an '09 Focus. If nothing changes in the economy between now and then, negotiating should be hoot.

Ford is comming out with the Fiesta. Its based on the Mazda 2 chasis and is suppose to get 40 MPG. Should be a good solid car!
