97 4.2l rebuilt, after a week developed miss. replaced Ho2's and fuel pressure regulator. High pressure has now blown 2 fuel pressure regulator diaghrams and of course blows raw fuel thru vacuum into intake. Installed a fuel pressure guage in place of Schrader valve, 60psi guage rolls back to 0psi( I assume 80psi or more). Can this be due to a faulty fuel pump? How can I check to see if lines are not kinked/blocked on return side. Would love any advice to keep me and my wallet together.
Blocked return line will do it.
Look where the return line might have been affected by the work done.
The pump is capable of at least 100 psi, so these things can happen.
It's also why the feed line is high pressure rated and return may not be rated as high for normal operation.
I never thought about it, but maybe I might have pinched the line while installing the engine to tranny, I did it by myself so it was slow going and had a hard time getting proper fit onto the trans. I believe the fuel pump has a pressure regulator in it as well as the one on the fuel rail, would this be another cause if the line is not kinked? also is it possible to have fuel pump tested or are they affordable enough to just replace? Thanx for the reply by the way!
