Why did they do this?

What the fu...dge?

Junkyard motor - welded up port in the head. (See photo below, center of head, welded area.) Why?

Is this going to hurt anything? Should I open this back up?

i believe thats factory, dont know why its like that though....every motor ive ever seen only had water ports in the front and rear...i would leave it alone...

Looks like the egr crossover passage.Shouldn't hurt unless you need the egr.

EFI or carb? EFI would be just EGR. Carb would be also carb heat less carb heat, better preformance. In eithwer case I wouldn't worry about it.

They're D3VE heads, carbureted.

Sounds like I don't have anything to worry about.

The blocking of the cross overs a hot rod deal and will improve performance and mileage but will make the emissions worse.
