Steering box Question..

On my 1977 F-250 Highboy with power assist, there is a plug on top of the gear box. When I pull the plug out I can see the gear but nothing else. Should there be some gear lube in there or something?

Thanks Montana. Was pretty sure that was the case just wanted to make sure. This is my first go'round with P.A.. Don't think that it was empty but was low.

Glad to help, if it's the original cap it will be vented so so don't worry about over filling it, just top it off and you'll be fine, how long do you think it was dry?

Not sure it was dry, just couldn't see it. It is not a vented cap. It's just a pipe plug.

If i'm not mistaken the original gear boxes on these P/A systems (73-77.5) had a vented cap, somebody correct me if i'm wrong, though a plug will suffice.
