Quick help to Id
I have shot at an 84 f250 this weekend and need to id the engine as to 360 or 400.Ihave not seen this motor but do know it runs and have the casting code.I need a motor to replace the 400 in a 77/79 F250 auto.The 84 is a freebee thus the intrest.This fell in my lap this morning. I just need to know if I can use it.thanks Mark block casting E4AE6015FA2D

FE motors stopped in 1976 so it can't or shouldn't be a 360. The 1984 engine options may not have included the 400M. They had 300 6 cyl, 302 V8, 351 windsor V8, 460 V8, and 6.9 or 7.3 Diesel V8. But I could be wrong that the 400 wasn't available in 84 F250

No, you're entirely correct, the 351M/400 engines were no longer available after the
1982 model year. See (for example):

If this 1984 truck has a 360 in it, it didn't come out of the factory that way.
