I have a '66 with no motor or trans. What it was originally fitted with was a 240 and a 4 speed manual (3speed w/ granny). My goal is to drop in a 300 and the newer 5 speed, m5t2 I think it's called (used through the mid '90s at least). My question is, will the 5 speed mount in ok, (is the cross member in the right spot, is my drive shaft the right length, will the splines line up)? Thanks in advance for any input.

Yes it will fit, however it is not a simple job as the clutch for the mazda unit is hydraulic.
is the cross member in the right spot,
Nope, the one you have will need to be modified to accept the later insulator and moved back. or a completly new mount fabricated. a simple job.
Will my drive shaft fit?
Nope, it will need to be modified or replaced to accomidate the longer transmission.
will the splines line up?
Nope, again depending on the transmission you have verses the one you want. The mazda unit shares the spline output shaft with the AOD. the LD ford 3 speed used a yolk type end or in some cases a slip type joint that is common to the C4 and the C6. Also important is the diameter of the output shaft as the mazdas tend to bow that seal and its haztalavista transmission.
Garbz2, thanks a lot. I'll give you my whole story and ask one more question. The body on the truck I have is great, needs paint and floorboards because it sat for a long time. I got lucky, I'll fix that and have a solid truck. I'm not interested in super modified vehicles. I want something somewhat authentic that has a little better gear ratio. I don't plan to drive it over-the-road too much but don't want to cringe at doing so (high rpm/high gas). That in mind ... Q- what trans do you like? Again, thanks in advance.
