Unhappy Long walk

My 92 7.3 has always had a slight tic to it ever since we had it 100000 thousand miles ago. The tic seemed to get progressively worse over the years. Sometimes it would be unbarably loud and other times you could barely hear it. 2 weeks ago it finally put me down. I was 10 miles from home and the tic got louder than ever. i tried to baby it home with no luck. About 2 miles from the house it started missin and running like crap. i cut the motor off and came to a stop. What ever gave way made the motor fill up with water. It died way too young With only 180000 miles on it.

Sorry to hear that man. At least you were close to the house. Other than that, I can't think of anything simple that may cause that. Mine since the day I bought it has had a knock like a rod bearing but 30,000 miles later @ 195,000, it don't bother me. I think its normal, If not, I might be walking as well. Only my walk will be like my last and it was no 2 miles. 20 miles away and my motor cycle decided to cut me loose from a fuel leak that ran me out of fuel way out on the country dirt roads. For some reason or another I was never upset. I kinda wish I was further out cause that walk wasn't long enough. Cloudy and 70 degrees in the middle of now where. Right now, I could sure go for another walk!!!!

Well, When you find out what it was, let us know, my guess is you broke a rod.

I hope it's the nature of the beast to have a bit of a clunk, especially noticeable if your listening under the front fenders, at idle, mine always has had it, worried about at at first, but 3 years later still running great. I also change my oil every 5000 km, and look for metal on the magnetic drain plug!

You need to look at either a blown head gasket or cavitation as your problem.

yeah im not going to bother paying to see whats wrong with it. I just bought a 91 f-350 identical to mine except for the body style and interior. The truck was owned by the city and used to change flat tires on buses. The truck never pulled a trailer and has 76000 original miles. Ive already pulled my motor out and started preping the engine compartment for the new motor. It wont be long now.
