No check engine mil light on the superdutys atleast on my 01. It did have misfire codes stored in the computer showing 2 bad cops when autozone read the codes for free . It is very easy to get the codes read, and it will tell you exactly which cylinder is misfiring. One cop would only misfire when hot, the other one did it all the time.

Thanks for all the responses!!!
I tried the infrared thermo and.....no dice.
The temp variances were too much to notice a difference.
I did go to AZ again to make sure they couldn't read a code and I was right about that....they can only read a code with a CEL on.
The guy there said that a bad COP would throw a CEL and if my CEL was not on then it would NOT be a bad COP.
He was leaning towards the fuel injectors based on my descriptions of the missing. He told me to get some fuel injector cleaner...NOT from AZ but to go to the dealership and get some ?x44? or something like that. About $15 a bottle but it would definitely clean the injectors....
Sorry to inform you, but no mil is there to set a code. I had 2 cops missing on an 01 superduty with the 5.4. I drove the truck all the way from north carolina to chicago 680 miles with one miss and then on the way another one started making 2 when I bought the truck. Read the forum topics up top and it could explain it better for you. Autozone did read codes on mine even though no mil was present, and it even suprised the employee who hooked up the reader. The codes came right up easy as could be. It was very easy and no guess work involved.
I'm changing plugs tomorrow.........I got a buddy that can read the codes for me to see it shows anything..
Regardless, this has been an awsome experience. I'm almost looking forward to my next breakdown!!?
My local AZ also did not have a reader than could pick up the "pending" codes that my light-load misfire was throwing.
My local Advance Auto's reader was able to pick up those pending codes, and indicated the offending cylinder. I went and bought that Actron model scanner from Amazon.
BTW, my local Advance Auto lends the new, expanded Ball Joint Press Kit that contains all the spacers, etc needed for SD ball joint replacement. My local AZ stilll only lends the simpler kit, where you have to improvise some componets to make it work.
