Anyone have any suggestions on the best behind seat storage for a 2008 f150 xl regular cab. The small back doors give just enough room to get to the behind seat area, but need something to hold and organize. Can find lots for super cab up,but so far not much for the regular cab. Any suggestions appreciated.
Get the floor tray from Ford. Holds a lot of stuff, and bolts to existing holes in the floor. I had one in my '05, and could not believe all the items I had in it. Probably costs a few bucks, but worth it.
Here's the Ford Storage Bin in my '08 Regular Cab. I have photos of the installation process in the Photo Gallery on this site. It was a simple job and has turned out to be very handy. Small items like a plastic grocery bag can be reached from the driver's seat with the middle console down.

I also have the Ford accessory, which is about $90+ retail now. Installation involves removing the vinyl floor, inserting four crush nuts (probably not the right name, but as close as I can think of), then replacing the vinyl and drilling a 1-1/2" hole in the vinyl. The storage bin bolts right in. Figure 30-60 minutes if you have all the tools at hand.
The storage bin itself is pretty handy. The drawback I find is that most of my existing tool bags are too wide to fit in it. This may or may not be an issue for you.
In my prior truck (2005 F150 XL), I didn't have the storage bin. I think I could get more stuff in the back without it, although it was messy to store.
I think that DeeZee also makes a generic storage bin, which has two shelves. However, it attaches with dual sided tape rather than bolts if I read the description correctly. My impression is that it's not good for storing anything very heavy, but perhaps someone who has one will comment.
For any storage option, remember that the contents are going to fly out in the event of a panic stop. Stuff like loose chisels or utility knives with exposed blades could give you some nasty cuts before they stopped bouncing around. Tool bags are my recommended storage.
If I had not lost the prior truck in an accident, I was going to try to build my own storage bin using plywood. You can use the pre-stamped hexagonally-shaped holes in the back of the regular cab floor if you decide to do that yourself.
Should have no problems putting it in. This is my second ford truck. the first was an f150xlt lariat 5.0 2wd (1988). I drove it for 20 years and put almost 300,000 miles on it. Was still going strong, but my wife said I needed to let it go sometime.I had no behind the seat storage on it,but toss and hope would stay put. Appreciate the info.
Like Hank said, it's too narrow for tool bags and boxes, etc. It's good for storing ropes, nylon pull straps and that kind of thing. I don't keep too much loose or heavy stuff in the cab anyway, to minimize the number of potential missiles in the event of an accident.
I installed mine without removing the vinyl. I used an ice pick to poke up through the holes from underneath and then used a hole saw to cut the holes in the vinyl flooring and padding as instructed. There is a template to cut dividers from plywood if you so desire.
