When I turn the key to start, most times I have to turn the key two or three times for the starter to trigger. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm not sure where to start, no pun intended.
Thanks for the replies. It's a 93 E350 NA auto, 282,000 miles. I might actually prefer a manual in this truck but I don't think the vans got them. If I need to replace the ignition switch, you mean the cylinder in the stearing column, right.
Not to confuse you but also, Do you hear any clicking when you turn it to the start position when it doesn't crank. If you do hear a lound click when you turn the key, You probably have a bad solonoid either on the right fender well or the starters solonoid. You can have someone listen to the one on the right fender and if see if it clicks when you turn the key when it won't start. If so, Post for more info. If no clicks at all, Then I would agree to start at the switch.
(Also, Im not sure where the starter relay is on the van)
I don't hear any clicks. When I turn the key the glow plug light comes on as usual, when it goes out I turn to the start position and there's nothing at all. If I hold it in the start position for a few seconds or try one or two more times it will crank like it should. I'll replace the ignition switch and see if that fixes it, if not it sounds like I should look at the solenoid. There's one on the starter is there a second under the hood?
