Hey guys, I have a 77 F150 4x4 with a Dana 44 in the front with warn hubs. Due to some loose lugnuts, which created some excitment while driving, I need to replace all the studs and the outer hub assembly. Well my problem is removing the gearing in the hub, so far I have removed both the inner and outer spring clips and have been able to pull out the gear that moves in to lock the hub and the spring behind it, but I still can't get the outer gear out of the hub housing. Everytime I pull on it the the gearing around the axle also moves but I still can't get it out. I am wondering if there is another spring clip I have missed or something. I've got a Hanes but it isn't helping much, I think due to the warn hubs. I have taken this apart before to replace the rotor but that was a while back and I can't seem to remember exactly what to do. Any help y'all have is great. Thanks
These can be a pain in the you know what sometimes. If they develop a burr where the clips rub, they are very hard to slide out.
Some Warn hub models have a small screw that you can screw back in about half way and grab with a pair of pliers. Push in on the large gear then try and jerk it towards you. Working the gear back and forth eventually frees it. I hope!!!
As a last resort, I guess you could drill a hole on each side of the large gear and thread a pair of screws in that you could get a hold of and pull.
You did say you got the outer clip out the one that's just a round piece of wire that is hard to peel out of the hub.
