Clutch will not release

1979 F600, 370 5 speed, four wheel drive dump truck. The clutch will not release I have adjusted the linkage tried starting it in gear(s) and rocking it with the loader. The pedal has about an inch of play and the fork seems to be moving when the pedal is depressed. Is there anyway, from the outside, to tell if clutch assembly is rusted (frozen) or is there something wrong with the clutch fingers or throughout bearing? Thanks

Dave

Has it been sitting for a long time out of use? It sounds like the friction disc is stuck to the flywheel. A broken finger in the pressure plate could also cause that.

If the fork is moving and is not bent twisted junk, then perhaps the throwout bearing spearated, or it wore out the p-plate tines and simply 'goes thru (if the throwout bearing was starting to seize up, when they seize they will eat thru the tines rather quickly)

an idea - put it in gear - 4th gear, push in the clutch, start it up with no one in front.

if the disc has done some rusting, THIS should bust her loose

I have tried all the gears and made the mistake of using 1st gear. The engine started the key came out of the ignition, switch is worn, and truck was not going to stop. The brakes wouldn’t hold it knocked down several 6” saplings crushed a picnic table almost got my garage. It came to rest up against a 20” oak, I had to jack up a rear wheel to unwind the drive line so I could get it out of gear. The whole ride the clutch was in and that didn’t break it loose.
