head liner for panel
I have been looking for some kind of board to use as a backer for material that I want to use as a headliner for the rear of a 54 panel.the ribs are 39 and 36 inches apart and I need 56 inches from side to side.I think Iwill have to use to pices to cover the roof.The problem is finding something tha will give support but still beento go from small arch at the center to a large arch where the sides and roof meet.I was thinking of 4x8 sheets of light plastic but cant find any,Maybe 1/8 inch luan but i think it might break.Any suggestions?

How about some of the 4x8 sheets of materials they use in showers etc. Check the home centers.
Also check with LeBaron Bonney or some of the other suppliers of classic car interiors for the material they cut the backing for door panels etc from. I know they will sell materials seperate.

I just asked this same question a few days ago. There seemed to be some debate as to if the panels ever came with a headliner that extended into the back area. No one apparently makes an original style replacement, I've seen a couple places that advertise a headliner that goes from the windshield to dome light but that's it. It's also been suggested that a Custom Cab panel would have been fitted with a "breathable" perforated type material versus standard cab trucks were the "cardboard gray" material. What exactly is luan? a type of thin wood sheeting or paneling? I was wondering about that 1/8 hardboard that pegboard is made of and soaking it in water and Ammonia to get it to slowly take a good bend and see what happens. I'm sure there is something out there that with some experimenting may work and look good. Let us know if you discover something because it sounds like many of us are in the same boat.
