I hate to say this but if you want better milage then drive ANYTHING else. These rolling brick walls were never designed for mileage. I think the only vehicle that gets worse mileage is maybe a Hummer.
But I still won't get rid of mine. I'm lucky since I don't drive it much. (3.5 years with only 16K) plus I have other vehicles that get a lot better mileage.
I love my X. I've got four boys and I also occasionly tow stuff, car, motorcycle, trailer, bob cat, etc. If I can save some money by putting a spoiler on the front, then, bottom line, I can save some money!
Usually, the installation of a "real" spoiler causes fuel mileage to suffer because a "real" spoiler creates downforce, and that equates to drag. I installed one on a car back in 1974, and my MPG went from 30 to 28.
Bottom line? You won't save any money. And let's say your MPG did improve by 0.1 MPG ... how long would it take before the cost of spoiler is recovered? I ask because you won't reap ANY savings until the cost is covered first.

A spoiler is supposed to be designed to route the wind around and/or over the car. When I used to auto race, 10 yrs ago, a spoiler was the difference of up to 5 mph on the back strait of Road Atlanta. Since I was driving a VW Rabbit, that was a big difference. The spoiler allows the car to travel faster with less horse power, so if your traveling at the same speed with a spoiler, the motor does not have to work as hard.
I appreciate Paul T and his sites, but the price of these are too much $$. I think I'll fabricate one from some rolled plastic. I'll do some test runs and post the results.
I'm going to replace the stock little lower lip with it and build an air damn like Dave on some of the other forums has on his F250. Should reduce the amount of "bad" air flow under the rough underside of my Excursion.
It will be stiff yet flexible if it hits something, and if it doesn't work I'm only out $7. Also putting a piece at the front of my enclosed trailer.
