My wife's uncle has a motor home with a 460 gasser engine, auto tranny. He recently pruchased a wrecked '97 F350 PSD, 4X4 auto. He wants to take the PSD and install it in his motor home. Any input on what would be required for this swap would be greatly appreciated. I know the back end of the diesel trany will need to be changed. What about motor mounts? What else will we be in for if we go ahead with this project?
BTW, the motor home is a '91 Bounder, built on a heavy Ford chassis of some kind, I'm guessing F450 or bigger. Did they use the 7.3 diesel in these trucks back then?
Is the chassis box or c type? C type would be off the e-series.
You are going to have to transfer just about every thing off of the
97. Even the inst cluster do to it has the psom. Fuel system is up to you
(elect or mech). Also fuel tank if galvanized must be replaced.
I believe the chassis is a c type. There is nothing on the outside of the motor home that looks Ford, but the inst cluster and steering wheel/column are Ford.
Can anyone tell me about motor mounts? I have to think that there are factory purches that can be bolted to the frame that will match up to the diesel. Also, how does the physical size of the 7.3 diesel engine compare with the 460?
