Quick thought. Recently I was given a '63 F-100 by my brother who just didn't have time to restore it. Basicly it has a ghost in the wiring, small rust hole in the rear right fender, and the engine is toast. Otherwise, body, cab, and frame are great.
I was just wondering what your thoughts were on upgrading the engine. It currently has a 292, and I was thinking about converting it to desiel. A buddy has a '79 C-5 Blazer that was converted to desiel and he gets 36mpg and that's with DC traffic. No, not joking either. What would be the best way about it, and any suggestions on engine models to look at?
Im a big fan of the cummins 12 valve. I had a buddy put a gm 6.5 turbo diesel in his FJ-40 with a 5 spd and he said hes up in the 20s for mileage. You have to think though, by the time you spend the money for the swap how long will it take to pay for itself. Or you can forget all that nonsense and build something nobody else has just for the coolness factor.
