Having just purchased a new fiver I had to haul it to our lot. The gross weight is over 16k but I estimate we had it at 14.6k. The GAWR was fine but the GCWR was over by about 1.5k. I don't like to push the limits but it is a one time thing only. The truck handled beautifuly. We were down to 40 mph going up 8% grades but I didn't rev it over 3500 in second. Going down similar grades was not a braking problem as the truck held well in 2nd gear with occassional braking and the trailer did it's part. This is one fine truck, I am impressed. Took over a tank of gas for 240 miles but for half of it I was bucking 40 plus winds.
the gross weight you can tow with that truck depends on the rear end. what size gears are you pulling with? if you have 4.30's or 4.56's your probably fine.
Smart move to keep the gas usage a little lower. I like to drive mine like a bat out of hell but don't like to fill it up so I take it a lot easier than I would if gas was $2 a gallon.

4.30, it doesn't lack for grunt, just concerned about B.C. mounties checking things out.
