I went to a local show today and a fellow had a 56 flip hood. I looked at it in amazement at how simple it was. I ask where he got that and he said it was out of a BMW.
It had two brackets that bolted on where the rods for the engine compartment are. It had taken the rods off the hood and replaced them with square tubbing.
The Beamer hardware was mounted across the front of the hood on square tubbing and the rear brackets just bolt to the back of the inner fender. Looked really simple and he said it was easy to put in. Has anyone else used this set up??

It is a BMW design. Not parts from a BMW. There are at least two kits I am aware of for flipping them forward. Just about all of the old truck suppliers carry them.
It is rare at the shows to see one that is not flipped forward. That is why mine is staying like it is.
Mid-fifty Mid Fifty F100 Parts (click the blue letters) carries the kits as well as just about everyone else.
I have used both the kit from No Limit Engineering and the one from Classic Performance Products on my 56 F100.
Got so sick and tired of trying to make the No Limit kit work I took it off and installed the Classic Performance Kit that one works great ( well at least for me ).
Remember you will need to remove the hood to install the kit hardware.
merc546,what problems did you have with the No Limit flip kit? I have purchased one but haven't got it on yet. This way I can know what to look for before I start gettin frustrated.
Max,
Here's a link to an article from quite a few years ago describing how the BMW style hood works. Reverse-Tilt Hood Design for 53-56 Fords .: Articles
Several of the pictures are out of order or don't show up. I can e-mail a clean copy, if you send your address.
Several other members have done their own and documented them in their galleries with pics and descriptions. You might try searching this forum for "reverse tilt hood" or similar since I know the others have shown pics or directed others to their galleries.
I have the BMW kit from NO LIMIT. I love it. If I could install it, anyone can , trust me on that.
My original hinges SUCKED -thats why I scraped them. YOU get twice the head room with a reverse hood.
As you can see from snipas post not everybody had problems with the No Limit kit, but for some reason I got a bad one and never could get the thing to line up correctly.
Installed the CPP kit and it work fine from the start.
I know this isn't much help but I did this a few years ago and don't recall all of the problems other then it never fit worth a damn.
Hi
I used the kit from mid-fifty, with no problem other than the "back lip"catching a little as I lifted the hood.It installed easily enought, and as stated, gave alot more head room to work under. You will need to bend your head to see into the radiator, but thats what your neck is for

I see in the Mid Fifty book they tell you to take the strip off the cowl and replace it with some buttons they have. This way when you pull the hood forward it won't catch or drag on the paint

I have the one from Mid-fifty and the rear of the hood was also catching I trimmed the back of the hood about 1/4", afterwards I realized all I had to do was loosen the bolts and slid the hood forward there is about 3/4 adjustment in the forward/backwards adjustments I think you could alco elongate the slots for for more adjustments. I now have a fiber glass hood on the Mid-Fifty kit and it works fine. I didn't use the prop rod I drilled a hole in the pivot rod and insert a 1/4" push pin.
