Hard starting when hot

Hard starting when hot

I've got an 95 F150 302 5spd 4x4. Starts like a dream when cold. If I drive somewhere and try to start it again say 15 minutes after stopping it, It cranks for a long time before it catches. (15- 20 seconds). Once it starts again, it's fine. If I shut it down and start again within say 5 minutes, it usually starts right up.

I've tried switching tanks. They both give the two second whir when I turn the key on. I get no check engine warnings, so don't know what the problem is if I don't get any codes. Anyone got any suggestions?
This just started in the last few months.

I didn't think EFI had vapour lock issues. Do they?

Ignore this post, wrong thread.

Try turning the key to run and then jump it at the starter solenoid when it does it next time. If it starts right up I'd look at the spark control box.

The spark control box on the inner fender can cause a whole variety of problems/issues when starting the motor.
For instance It may not have fire in the start/crank position but has it in the run position catching the second the key is let off to the run position as the driver gives up.

Over heating while in use is just one of the problems those boxes suffered from.

If I remember right you go by the wires protective grommet color when replacing one, if the plastic grommet is blue, you'd need one with blue grommets. If white then white, brown then brown and so on. One with a different color will not work right.

My used 92 F150 with 5.0 have always required that the foot feed be depressed for about one inch when starting the engine hot. With the throttle partly open-it starts immediately.

I always thought of this as a theft control feature.Even if the truck is hot wired-it will not start hot without the throttle being slightly open.

Check the above post from danr1 & phoneman91,see if they fix your hot start problem. If not check your ign.coil, I had an old Corvette that had this problem, Primary coil windings & Secondary windings going bad when hot....... My old Thunderbird had elec.module hot start problems. Hope it words out for you. But you did't get any codes??

Sounds like a leaking injector or a bad FPR, if you hold it on the floor it might help it start faster.
Holding it on the floor turns off the injectors while cranking.
No vapor lock with a 95 EFI 5.0 system.
