Engine Dies When Hot
I have a 1987 Ford Bronco with a 302 V8 engine. Last week the battery light came on steady, so I decided to check it out. I was driving the truck to the store to get some supplies, when all of a sudden the engine died. I tried starting it again, nothing. It wouldn't even crank over. I figured it was a dead battery, so I got a jump and got it running again. I got it home, and pulled the alternator. It was confirmed bad, so I bought a new one and put it in, and charged the battery. That solved the battery light problem. However, the next day, I tried starting my truck, and the starter relay just clicked. I figured ok, dead battery, so I jumped it, it started. I shut it off again and tried restarting, it cranked over like normal (fast) and started right up. I took it out later that day, and after driving for a while, the engine died again. This time, it would crank over very slowly, but it would not start. Almost like it had no spark. I waited until the engine cooled down, and then tried it, it cranked over with full power and started right up. Since then, I have not dared drive the truck, but I cannot figure out what's wrong. Could it be the starter relay? Ignition coil? Something else? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for the replies. I checked the battery cables, and both the + and - off the battery needed replacing. The negative cable certainly is a pain to replace. But it was worth it, as the problem seems to have stopped. Although today the engine hesitated for a few seconds once while I was driving it, but that's probably a new problem. I also replaced the starter relay for good measure. Thanks again for the help.
