Well i started tearing down my 460 yesturday, there was a little sludge hear and there but when i pulled the lifters out, they were barely scratched when looking at them, so i get the heads off and driver side the cylinders still had hone swirls in them, all but 1 on the passenger side looked great, the one that didnt had rusty water in it and above the water the cyllinder was rough with rust if you know what i mean, it was like running my hand over 80 grit sand paper, now do you think this could be honed out
This engine is going into a 87 F.150 pickup, its going to be a sport/street truck, may see some track time to but i want it to be reliable, with that said what kind of intake and cam will be good for it, i want to use the stock heads, it will have headers and a nice free flowing exhaust, i want the most bang for the buck so what is everyones notions as to what parts for me to use, any feedback will be apreciated
that MAY come out with a hone but if you want reliability then your best bet would be to bore, at least have the deck checked if not decked, and line bore/hone. imho. a real good intake is the weiand stealth. makes better top end power then the older single planes and great low end power too. you'll want to stay with a hydraulic cam and lifters, roller or tappet which ever way you want to go.
a stealth is a good intake and cheap too,but i have had good luck with edelbrock performers on my bb's. also a little cam lobe goes a long way with a 460. i think i used a 560 lift and it woke up my one motor alot and made her sound awesome.
