Whoever did the wiring in my 73 F100 before me done a real hack job. If I were to buy a new one and do it myself with the diagram....how painful would it be for me being a first timer? Thanks
If you find a new harness made for your truck, it's very easy. You probably would not even need a diagram. Everything plugs in, and the plugs have different length wires, so when you get it installed in the body, everything for the most part lines right up.
Take some masking tape and mark the old wiring as you take it out though, because the only problem you may run into is a bad component here or there. That's one of the main reason people hack the wiring, to bypass and wire around components that are not working correctly.
I am not sure what your considering a hack job, but Motorcraft and others probably have all the pigtails you would need. Instead of doing the whole harness you splice in new wire or pigtails.
