Have any of you bought any of those cloth grocery bags that all of the stores are selling now? If you still get the plastic bags, what do you do with them? Any creative uses to reuse them?
I still like the good ol' paper bags. I reuse the plastic ones for my lunch bag, and also as a trash can liner. Seattle city council voted on a 20 cent bag fee starting in January 2009.

Seattle is going to start charging 20 cents per bag? WTF?
I usually get paper bags if available and use them for trash bags or whatnot but I also use the plastic ones for garbage or picking up after the dog. I end up trashing a lot of the plastic ones though. I hate it when they want to give you a bag for 2 items. Thanks, I'll carry them myself.
Lately I've been using them to bring bags of garden vegetables to work (tomatos, etc.) or to friends and family. I always bring empties too so they can use them to bring some home with them (work). Use them on camping trips inside the camper. The little bags end up going into one big heavy-duty bag for later disposal.
Anyone have that dispenser that you can hang on closets, or in campers, etc....where you load the bags through the top and just start pulling them out one at-a-time from the bottom?.....

We used one of those gizmos for a short time - didn't find it all that handy.
Anymore we just stuff the plastic bags into a plastic bag.

Yeah we have one of those hanging from one of the cupboard doors under the sink. And a little garbage pail that uses grocery bags on the other door. It's a lot easier to re-use the bags when you know where to find them.
i THINK that you can bring them back to stores and get a small deposit off of them for using your own bags instead of getting a new bag everytime... but here we just throw them all away... since i just come home for lunch dont need a bag...dont really freaze alot of stuff... so no use there... and only garbage cans we have in the house are the bigger ones anyways... so yeah...
my stepdads mom[well ex step dad] had one of those things where you stuff the bags in the top and pull them out the buttom... it was shaped like a cook...and pulled them out his butt LOL
I like using the little bags for trash. When I used big bags, I wouldn't take them out till they were full, or smelling up the house. The little bags fill up quick, and then they go in the dumpster in our driveway.
I wish they'd ban them. Hoot if you want, but I've sailed through the gyre in the Pacific and Indian Oceans where you can see plastic trash everywhere. If more folks saw it, they'd get some religion about it.
We recycle ours when we get them, try to use and reuse paper and cloth bags. I used to use plastic bags to gather the dog poop, and still carry them for walks, but I started to feel sorry for the future archaeologists digging through our old dumps, LOL. So I'm worm composting the stuff the dogs generate at home.
I use plastic bags for the cat litter. Also the school ask for plastic bags to put the kids work in for art and the grade school to put papers in when the kids forget there backpacks, and for book orders.
