Its not a bolt on deal. I have heard the radiator support doesn't match. Also, you would have to think about the driveline if your 89 has a different engine and transmission. But, anything is posible if you put the effort into it, and I am sure that you will not be the first to do it!
I would think it is possible. But for all the time and effort you would put into, you would probably be better of finding an 89 donor truck and swap your good stuff onto your donor frame. I would think you would be spending a lot of time and money making the 89 work on the 70's frame and IMHO taking a step back in running gear, brakes, axles, etc. by using the 70's frame. But heck if you want to do it. Do it and post pics so we can all be moral support for you.
theres a guy that runs near me put a 89 body on a 76 highboy frame. set the whole thing back so the axle stuct out the front. basically put a longbed frame under a shortbed truck and put everything at the back. the bed would need new holes drilled for it, possibly some new body mounts, but i cant see that being too difficult. they dont change frames very much, just components.
