differential hose?
I have a piece of rubber hose like a vacuum line hanging down from the top of the rear axle on the drivers side of my 2000 ranger 4wd kingcab. could anyone tell me where it goes? it hangs down and is about a foot long but I don't see where the other end connects to.
and could this be part of the reason for the loss of power?

That's the vent line to the rear axle. Check to make sure it's not plugged. To hang it up higher like Matt suggested you may need to replace it with some similar hose, maybe fuel hose of the same diameter. You should be able to use a small hose clamp to attach it to the fitting on the axle tube. Make sure there's enough slack in it to move around a bit but don't let the open end hang down too far. Maybe no more than about 4 inches below the upper part of the frame by the bed.

thanks a lot. thats what the guy at autozone told me yesterday but you never know with those guys, but the store I go to they are all pretty good. I will drive 10 miles past an advance auto to go to autozone and 50 miles past a napa to get to one.
