I usually drive a diesel, but I'm currently upgrading my turbo, and I'm driving my old half ton around. I must say that the 300 is an amazing engine. The truck has 207k on it with the stock clutch! It doesn't burn any oil but the rear seal leaks a tad, not really an issue though.
However, the powersteering bearing is shot. She started squeeling once I got it into to town to put fuel into it.
Basically, the bottom line is the rest of the truck is pretty much in junk condition. It's been repainted a few years back, but it has Cancer and its starting to get bad.
My question is, is it worth to replace to pump and get that bearing fixed?
Can I keep driving it until it goes out? I could care less if it has powersteering or not? IIRC there is a little shear pin in the bearing assembly so the actual pump will not lock up? I do plan on driving this truck during the winter months when its not economical to start the stroker up.
I'm just not sure if its worth it to put in a new pump on a 18 year old truck.
Yep, its manual. How difficult is it to replace the PS pump? I stopped by the parts house and they wanted $60 for the pump. Doesn't sound too bad. Would it be similar to replacing a hydraulic pump?
