I just changed my intake to a weiand, i have the metal intake gasket thing, Does the metal sheet have temperature purposes or other than sealing? can i just cut and use the end for the ports only?...
If its the pan that goes all the way from one side to the other its supposed to keep some of the heat and hot oil off the bottom of the intake. I have had problems with them trying to seal correctly. They are probably better than the regular gaskets if you can get it to seal correcltly. Kind of a pain to line up right when you put everything together in my experience. Would probably be better if you can get it to work though.
I think you are talking about the valley pan gasket. When I put my Weiand 8010 on I didn't use it, I just used regular gaskets on each side. I think that was the advice that I received from this forum.
yeah thast exactly what i mean, i just recieved my weiand 8010 and its been HELLL trying to get it straigt in there so hmmm maybe ill use regular gaskets on each side...
I dont remember having any trouble at all with mine, but its been about a year and a half. I am swapping the engine out this week and using my Weiand on the new engine so I will post how that goes. This time I will be doing it with the engine on a stand so it should be even easier this time.
the turkey pan is supposed to align itself on the locating dowels on each head. you lay down a 1/2" thick bead of sillycone on the end rails, then get the turkey pan in place on the locating dowels and set the intake on top of it.
it's a little awkward but not impossible, a couple 6" lengths of 5/16" threaded rod or long bolts with the heads cut off in the middle intake bolt holes for guides will help also. you screw the guides into the heads and slide the intake down onto them.
the turkey pan will run the intake 25* cooler than race gaskets
