Bear with me on this one as I am not that well versed with ford engines and set ups yet, and this one is starting to try my patience. What I have is an '82 F250 with 351W. I pulled the old 2v set up and dropped in an Edelbrock Performer 4bbl manifold (egr) with egr plate. Picked up a Holley 1850 off of ebay that I thought would work. At first something didn't look quite right but I thought I could figure it out later. First problem is the carb sits back farther than the original 2bbl so my throttle cable will not mount in the original bracket that bolts to the back of the manifold. I'm sure I could probably fabricate or purchase something to fix this problem. My real difficulty with this carb is that there is no lever/arm (or whatever you call it) to attach the kickdown rod to the carb (hence something not looking quite right). At this point I'm thinking that I probably should have looked for a different model carb. I'm sure that Holley has the right carb for a Ford kickdown setup, but not sure. Can anyone lead me in the right direction or provide an alternative. New carbs are not an option for me as I am a disabled veteran living on a fixed income.
Also, the power steering pump needs to be replaced but I haven't had much luck using a puller to get the pulley off in order to get it out. I want to put a flame to it to see if some heat will help but not sure if that is the right route to go. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The Holley 4150 and 4160 have the kick-down linkage on them. You would just need to add the spring bracket which is like 6 dollars from Summit. when I converted my 83 I needed to fab a bracket to modify the linkage on the throttle cable to make it work. I know Edelbrock makes a Ford adapter for the kick-down for their Carb but I have never seen a add on Holley version. you may need to get a different carb. Look for the two I mentioned above they will work for you.
Holley sells a extension for the 4150-4160 kickdown when converting from 2-4bbl. About 2 1/2" long. If I remember right it was less than $10. Power steering pumps use a special puller for removal and installation of pulley. Autozone actually sells it to you then buy's it back under their loan-a-tool program. Go to the Holley website for parts breakdown, and their tech support is great.
This truck is the first Ford that I have really done much work with and it is proving to be quite a learning experience - much different in certain areas than the GM products that I have worked on in the past.
83-351cj : Thanks for the carb recommendations. That was my major concern, not having any linkage to hook the kickdown rod to. I did find brackets through both Summit and Jegs that should work to set the throttle cable back farther, but I'm not about to pay over 60 bucks for something that I can fabricate. I had thought about the 4150 or 4160 but hadn't seen one up close and in any catalog or internet pictures that I viewed I could not tell if they had the linkage that I was looking for. I'll start looking for one right away. Thanks again.....
gfw1985: I do have an extension for the kickdown rod sitting on the bench, but had no where to hook it to the carb. Now that I have an idea on what model carbs to look for I should be able to cure this problem. As for the power steering pump, I have a puller for these pumps that was actually purchased at Autozone a few years ago. The only problem is that it will not pull the pulley off. Once tightened the two arms will pop off. I have seen a puller that is a slide on type for power steering pumps but have been unable to locate one. I want to hit it with a torch and see if heating it will aid in pulling it off but not sure if this is a good idea. I guess since the pump is trash it won't make much difference, will it........ Thanks for the input.

The power steering pump puller doesn't have arms- it has two halves that fit inside the pulley with another sleeve. If you don't need the pump for a core ,I guess you could hit it with a torch, which likely will melt the case letting the shaft pull out of the pump, which will probably be on fire by then. Do what you want- but obtaining the proper puller and learning to do it the right way, may help you in the future when you want to save the core for refund. I own one of the pullers- bought it off ebay cheap, and have seen one for under $10 at Chineese bargain tool store. I've never priced one at Autozone, but if they buy it back..... BTW, this tool removes and INSTALLS pulleys IIRC..... Oh... and it is a FORD power steering pump removal tool.
Looking on ebay for the proper puller/installer hadn't crossed my mind for some reason. I just started checking and found exactly what you are talking about, and what I had seen before. Guess I'll scrap the idea of using the torch since I would like to be able to save the old one for the core charge and just wait for my new puller to get here.
Thanks much for the advice....

Just thought I'd add something...try using the puller and an impact wrench-short bursts oughta do it.Mine was seized on pretty tight and had to soak it in penetrant for a couple of weeks before it let go...
