So Im curious what you guys running the 1320' are doing for suspension? I have pretty well decided I need to do a ladder bar setup, narrow the 9", and cage the 77. Powerplant wise, Ill either do a turbo 302, or build a nitrous motor out of the 400 in my parts truck and probably run a C4 for a tranny. Ive seen the black and red big block truck and one other one, but was curious if anyone else out there has done much with these trucks as far as racing. Ive built and raced a couple mustangs, a lightning, and built a few cars for friends as well, but this will be my first attempt at building a drag truck out of something like this. Any help is appreciated!
77explorer, what kind of stance does your truck have? Id like to get this fairly low to the ground, which Im sure lowering I beams is my only option. As far as engine size, I guess I should have clarified, lol. I mean a version of a 302. We have a low compression 331 in a buddys 91 Coupe with a 88mm turbo and its putting down about 770hp to the tires. Not that Im looking to go that radical, but I do know its an option. lol

scjfox my truck is not a race truck but I have a mustang, almost all topics cross over from car to truck. The one problem with a truck is weight. Too much of it in the wrong spots. There is lots of steel and most of it is up front. Traction is a big problem because the weight is up front, this is the main reason I went with a car, but I have seen these truck in the 9's before. First you need to set a goal of how fast you want to go, and how much money do you want to spend, and you will spend it no mater what. If you don't update it the power will brake it, trust me. GET A RULE BOOK, that way you know the rules and are not guessing will save you time in the long run. You do not want to rebuild a truck after its done I have done that too. As suspention I would go with a coil-over latter bar set up, they are simple to install and easy to get driving strait. Stiffen the frame up with boxing plates and with a cage. bars to the front and to the rear will help too. Have the frame level when you weld in the cage to don't want to put twist into the frame. This will cut down of flex which will better reaction times and 60' times. To help with weight transfer move the motor back. I cut the fire wall off my car and welded sheel metal panel in to get 4 inches farther back. That will get you a start there are two many things to list in one post.
We have a local heads up series that Ill probably run. For the most part you can do about anything to it as long as you arent faster than the index you want to run and the vehicle is street legal. I basicly just want to do something fun to get back to the track untill I start my next project. That will have to wait a couple years untill I can build a more suitable shop at home (super comp dragster). If I can get it to run even high to mid 11s Id be happy with it, I still want something streetable I can take to car shows.
