I dont know what exactly is involved,but wiring would be a big thing.They are different setups.
The 80+ has the key in the column,so you would have a dummy ignition in the dash or the column.
IMO,it isnt worth the hassle of hacking it into place,when there are a million of the right columns around cheap.

4x4 or 2wd matters a lot on the older pickups, and they changed from a rag joint to a spline setup on 4wd so that hook up may be different, I have an 85 column for my 77 and it will work, with a little patience, but anything will with some creative work I believe..
