Mass air sensor & cold air

Has anyone installed a Granatelli mass air sensor on their 99 and newer F-150 4.6 or 5.4L, I have a 2000 4.6L. They claim 10-15 hp gains, minor fuel efficiency improvements, and 50 state legal? On an air related topic, have you noticed how the cold air gets to the intake. If you look just above your front drivers light, there is a 2 inch oval cutout in the sheet metal, and the air flows through the inner part of the fender until it gets to the opening in the fender wall, which is where your filter element is. Thats seems like a small opening for incoming air to go into. I would think anyone having a bug deflector or hood bra would be limiting even further this air passage way. I was thinking of making this oval cutout as large as possible to get the most cold air flowing through, as well as providing an angle tube inside the fender wall that directs the air right out of the fender hole by the filter element. I have a K&N FIPK, so this last part would be possible. I have placed a hair dryer right into this cutout opening to see how the air flows, and I think by doing these 2 things, would help for more cold air. Any comments on the above is appreciated.
