Late 99 KTP, shipped to GA from factory, I bought it 1 year later. 275K miles now, no rust anywhere, but FoMOCO robot painter started to run out of paint when the pax front fender was painted and now its pinkish(read: faded)
all fasteners underneath can still be taken apart with a wrench, or socket, oil pan is still black. SS fuel and brake lines are dull, but not rusted.
This sounds just like mine except for the damn roof. Even the paper tags on my frame rails are still nearly new looking. Is there anyway to get the factories attention over something as obviously their fault as what this is?
Not likely, the truck could have been on the road now for up to 10 years lol. A bit out of corrosion warranty. You can try writing a letter, but doubtful of anything to come out from it.
just bought a 99 f350 in michigan and **** both cab corners are shot and little on rocker pannel it did plow but just a the guys house both not commericaly and i guess kept out side
I spoke to Customer Relations in Detroit today. They said for me to take it to a stealership that they named and asked if that was convenient for me. They said they would enter me into their system and the Service manager there would be aware of my situation. So that's quite a bit further than I managed to get last time. Will keep everyone informed.
Heres some rust for ya! - Check my sig for info (just turned 295,000)
I have rust on the wheel wells. Dots that drip rust and some paint flaking near the wheel wells. I also have rust and paint flaking near the front bottom wheel wells. I assume this is just because of the high mileage and the fact thats its a Michigan vehicle. All highway miles (and i say that with HONESTY, not trying to sell you my truck lol) so maybe all that high speed stones and rocks finally took their tole?
Outer body is fine, but I had rust in the following places:
* Frame-rails (surface at the moment, especially around the edges of the crossmembers, but it could become bad if not held in check)
* trailer-hitch (somewhat severe on the inside of the tube)
* Front diagonal support under body from floor to rocker-panels. Rusted to the point of being thin and sharp at the edges. Interestingly, a few feet back, the identical type of brace shows no signs of rust whatsoever.
Okay, Bubbles forming above rear wheel, on drivers side, rust forming just behind back tire. Drivers side door, where rubber seal was, eaten away, appears to have started ont he other doors, so pulled the rubber so salt water would gather there. all four doors, right in the corner of the window, paint has fallen off, but liitle rust showing. All of this just started the begining of this summer, Kentuky built truck. In the winter, we use our roads as bait piles ( salt licks ).
Is there anything I can do to keep the frame from rotting out completely. i want a truck that will last me a long time and I also want it looking real nice.
POR-15 for the frame. Spray that on. Its a great rust inhibitor. I think I'm going to have rust forming where I have about ten chips of paint from the A$$ HOLE! who thew his keys at my truck in the walmart parkinglot yesterday!!!! I literally could have killed the man with my bare hands! He is so lucky I had my girl with me. . . . grrrrrrrrrrrr!
Timmy
What does your girl being there have to do with it? You shoulda whooped some @ss. Why did he chuck his keys at ya anyways? Shoulda took em and chucked them in a garbage can at least!
Ya know I know some guys might not like hearing this, but the rust problem on our fords seems like it is a problem. I know awhile back toyota was getting crapped on for having their frames rust out, but for some of us, we are having our body rust away, and that isnt much better.
The prep for POR15 is to remove the rust flakes, and be 100% sure its clean, it can have rust on it, but not rust flakes.
I tried a similar product called Chassis Saver on my oil pan, they said its the same thing. All I know is my oil pan looks BRAND new now and the amount of Chassis Saver I used was maybe $5 worth.
