Hello all
I have a 26' 5er that I have been pulling with my 2000 F150 s/c 4x4 (rated at 8200)for 3 years now. I am going to buy a new truck, so my questions is, can I stay with a F150 or should I move up to a F250. 5er weights 6200" + 1000 extra in stuff + fire wood in the truck bed. The new F150 s/c 4x4 is rated at 9400.
are you comfortable with the current truck? if so I'd say yes. The '04 and up 150 is a much heavier chassis than your 2000. and with the 3 valve 5.4 I would think it'd be plenty of truck, if you don't get the itch to go with a bigger 5er.
I'm with cougar...the NEW 5.4L 3V motor is a great motor over what you currently have power wise...
IF (big IF)...you are NOT going to be thinking about getting a NEW trailer anytime soon since you will have MORE power...the F150 IMO would be just fine for your trailer to go darn near anyplace in the US you are wanting to go...
If you 'think' there is some possibility you MIGHT be wanting a new trailer...it is much cheaper to buy the RIGHT TV NOW rather than find out later that you don't have enough truck...in that case...I'd look F250 with V10 unless you are thinking about a really BIG 5'r like 12,000# or more...then the PSD would be in order...
Thanks guys, If we were to get a new 5er it would be of the same size. can't get anything bigger backed up into the driveway. (backing 90 degrees up hill in to the driveway from the street.)
The price difference between a F150 and a F250 usually isn't very much... even if you stayed with the 5.4L engine I think youd definately appreciate the heavier truck.
Just checked with the dealer in town here. This is what they said over the phone.
08 F150 S/C 4x4 FX4
Two/tone silver/gray w/black clth capt chairs w/floor shift
$34,980 sticker, dealer dropped to $32,100 -$7,500 rebate = $24,600
I think I can still do better, Do you agree???
You are definitely in the cat bird seat with trucks...so work him and work him hard...he doesn't have many people 'chomping' at the bit to buy 5.4L V8's no matter WHAT he tells you with gasoline at the levels they have been and will be at...
25k? Geeze... two years ago I bought a 2002 with 95,000 miles for $20... Five thousand more and I'd have gotten NEW?! of course, if gas was this expensive then I probably would have thought twice about buying even that truck...
I agree the F150 would work fine. However, an F250 would handle it much better. Plus if you have little ones going with you can have a crew cab with a long box if desired. But it does come down to what you want and think will work best. I love my CC LB, nice to be able to still have space in the bed with the hitch for more junk when we go out camping.
