on my '96 F-250 the firewall on the passenger side where the fender support is ripped off. (The truck saw a lot of off road use when my cousin had it) and the drivers side is showing a bit of tearing in the same area.
Does anyone know where I can get a new firewall piece? Or would it be better to just replace the whole cab?
I have cut one off a wrecked truck and bolted it to my truck for the time being.
And no, I am not going to just junk the truck and get a new one. This truck has proven its worth and I want to get it as close to new condition as possible.
Getting the firewall piece that you need from a donor truck is a good way to go. I really have not seen many patch panels offered for firewalls, but I have seen some aftermarket companies selling complete firewall kits. Most firewalls can be fairly flat in shape so making your own patch panel is also an option. To repair the damage you need to cut out the bad metal and then weld or use panel adhesive to attach the new metal. Do you have any pictures of the damaged area? How the repair is done can be area dependent.
When I get the chance I will take some pics of the repair. Unfortunately The firewall is not flat. I was thinking about making a new firewall out of chrome diamondplate but I do not have the fabrication skills for all the bends and welding required.
