Rear differential howl

Just got my 1979 F150 4x4 out of the shop. It has a 9" rear end with 3:50 gear ratio and was an open differntial. I had them rebuild a Trac lock differntial from another 1979 Ford 9". All (the pressure plates/Clutches /Pressure rings) what ever they are called and springs were replaced with the bearings. Runs great and both tires will give me traction, however when I backup slowly and turn or go forward slowly and turn I hear a very light howl from the rear end. there is no vibration or schrech just a low slow howl for a few seconds. The shop did put the additive for trac locks in the rear end. Is this normal for the breakend period ? While turning are the clutches making noise because they are new ? Any ideas ? It run great and performs great , can also fly down the freeway at 70-75 no problems.

A little "chatter" is normal with a limited slip diff when slowly making turns and this will be more pronounced with a new set-up.

Yep, some noise while turning at slow speeds is ok for a tight trac loc. Especially since you have no highway noise. My cousin re-clutched an 8.8 in his car-did it proper, with the additive, and the break in sounded like something was going to snap, it popped and moaned for a bit, then went away and worked very well.

Any one else agree with the two responses or should I take it back to the shop next week and have it checked?

You paid for the work, as a customer you're entitled to be satisfied, if you're at unease and just want peace of mind i'd take it back and have them take a second look it never hurts, but i'm pretty sure they'd say the same thing we just did.
