We bought a 2003 Aviator from a local dealer, and the gas tank was on E. I went and filled it up all the way, and it started to raise, but even after a few hours, and sitting overnight it has only worked its way up to a little over half way. I don't know of any other problems the vehicle has, but I don't think the dealer is going to do anything to help me out. Do you think it might be something as simple as the sending unit?
It's most likely that your PCM or IC is in Slosh Mode. See TSB 06-2-12.
There was another TSB (I can't remember or find it now though) that talked about build up on the sending unit caused by using high sulfer content gas. I remember some folks reporting a cure for that by adding an additive to a couple of tanks of brand name gas and then sticking with good gas afterwards. Of course there are those who will protest that all gas comes from the same refineries so I don't know, but worth a try.
took care of the problem we were having with the aviator, it was not registering the right gas level, when we bought it new to us.. the gas was empty, I went and filled it up, and it still showed E, I shut it off, and turned it back on, and it raised to 1/4, and all day yesterday, it raised a little, but never got to F. I ran diagnostics on it with the onboard computer, and it said (I don't remember the terminology) failure. I then removed the battery post and let it sit for a bit, then put it back on and tested it again. it worked fine after that. WOO HOO!!! Lets hope it continues to work good!
