I have an 01 f250 SD V10. It has about 100k miles on it and am wondering if I should be changing out some of the important sensors as a preventitive measure. I know some people say that a lot of their problems are caused by worn out sensors. I am thinking of changing the 02 sensors and the sensor that works with the egr valve. Any advice would be appreciated.
The DPFE, why bother if it ain't broke? The computer would throw a code if there is a problem with it, and that's if it even HAS an EGR. Have you checked to see if you have one? Many 2000-2004 do not.
Other than that, the big thing that jumps out is plugs.
A new DPFE will cost over $150 at the stealer, I'd let it go because it will let you know when its bad. Changing O2 are a good idea. Plugs in good shape? Clean the MAF and TB and whatever can be cleaned.
Be sure that you have a clean/new air filter, fuel filter, and pcv. Change the plugs and be sure to install them correctly. Be sure that all of your fluids have been changed according to the schedule in the owners manual. And, until something breaks, drive it and enjoy.
O2 sensors are about the only ones that will get contaminated over time and degrade - especially if you run cheap gas.
I usually change every 100K or so.
Shouldn't be hard to change - assuming the last ones had anti-sieze on the threads! Otherwise, they can be a bit tough to loosen. PBBlaster is your friend in that case.
Symptoms: As a sensor gets contaminated, it gives the CPU slightly off readings, so the CPU starts adjusting the fuel mixture too rich or too lean.
Decreasing fuel economy can be a first clue, then you may notice the vehicle not running quite as "crisp" or perfect, eventually will throw a code and light up the CEL.
are the o2 sensors difficult to change and what are some symptons of them going bad
The O2s themselves are easy to get at, the connectors to unplug them unfortunatly are not as easy. The connectors are way up behind the block.
I don't think two O2s will cost more than $200. Don't know for shure havn't replaced mine yet. My dads V10 is about ready to turn over 80k miles so hes overdue, going to help him change his. I've always heard change O2s every 70k miles.
my dpfe sensor went bad on our f250 v10 2001 where is it located at the manual we have shows it for the v8 but not the v10 anyone have any pictures that would help
Like folks have been saying, I wouldn't start changing sensors just for the sake of changing them because the truck has a lot of miles on it. If a sensor goes bad you should get a check engine light.
However, it wouldn't hurt to take the IAC valve off and inspect it and clean it if necessary. If it is carboned up just take some carb cleaner to it.
Might want to do a brake system flush and coolant flush as well. A good tranny flush can't hurt either.
