Looking at a 2001 F-150 XL 2wd 4.2 V6 auto w/3.31 gearing. My question is, I'm in the green industry and I will be pulling a 6x10 trailer and a commercial (52") mower,a pushmower, trimmer, and a b/p blower and additional fuel. Is the 3.31 gearing suffecient?
I also own a 2000 F-250 sd and it pulls the other equip perfectly. I just want to make sure the new truck will pull.
Should be no problem. I have a 98 F150 XL with 4.2 and pull an 18 ft boat all over the place. I also take care of yards and pull trailer with mower and the like.
IF you are still wondering if the 4.2 will be strong enough for pulling, consider this.
I pull a 16 foot tandem axle trailer which carries 500-600 foot of concrete covered form boards,a power trowel, concrete saw, all my hand tools, rebar, rolls of 6x6 wire mesh and after that, I sometimes "overload it".
My truck is a 97 f-150, 4.2v6 with an automatic trans. This truck also has 74000 miles on it and has never had a problem.
Ford has impressed me again.I also have an 83 mustang GT that I race every weekend.
