I replaced the front pads and they squeal pretty bad at stops. Had the same problem before I replaced the pads, and hoped to get rid of it. Rotors looked OK, and I replaced the calipers (had leaks.) The squeaking is worse when I first start driving the truck, but gets better as I drive, but its still really, really bad. And I even put that "anti-squeak" goo everywhere that the package said to put it. Whats going on here???
Yes I would also turn them, anything you can do with emery cloth would quickly be worn away again in seconds.
Wouldn't necessarily need lots of meat removed, if no run out or very little a light pass to correct the surface should prove to correct the problem.
Any competent machine shop should know exactly what to do to them and how to do it.
Generally takes 2 to 3 passes, first and second (if a second is needed) to remove the baulk material needed to true up any run out, one last light pass to etch the surface for the pads.
If they are badly glazed, enough to squeal and squeak they are likely to also be heat warped, at least a little.
