Probably brakes. You didn't say whether it's drum or disc, but I'll assume drum.

The shoes are probably over-adjusted. There is a slot in the backing plate that allows you to adjust the shoes. Use a screwdriver and turn the star wheel whichever way is harder to turn. They should drag lightly all the way around the wheel when you're done.

Of course, if you've driven it around like this much, you've probably cooked the brakes and they will need to be replaced, so you might as well put new shoes on it too.

Question though - why register on a Ford site to ask a question about a chevy? Wouldn't it be easier to just find a chevy forum?

Chevy drivers....

No, since it has disc brakes, you probably have a seized caliper that's sticking, or it could be the e-brake. I can't seem to remember what kind of e-brake it might use, is it a drum style or does it use a lever on the caliper? Either way, I would take it apart and see if there's anything obviously wrong.

Problem with that???
I was just asking a question, so there's no reason to get defensive. I *am* trying to help you, after all...

If you haven't done this yet, drive it a mile or so, and then go check for heat at the brake, caliper, e-brake, axle housing where the bearings. Compare temps side to side, as there will be some heat there with normal operation.

But if you find, as I did on my van, you can bake bread with the heat off the wheel, you are closing in on the problem.

Welcome to FTE, what's cooking in Honduras?

You don't. You have to replace it and you should also replace calipers in pairs.

no idea about the calipers but fullsizechevy, chevytalk or 67-72chevytrucks all dot com would be the best people to ask as they have better knowledge of these animals.. I have trucks from all three of the us manufacturers and each has their plusses

not knowing the specifics of your truck...I checked napaonline.com

and remanufactured, loaded calipers (with new pads) run between $60 and $90 each

make,model,year,gvwr,2 door or 4 door, 2 or 4wd all factor into the price!

Good Luck!

Yes and no, because I do not know the style because you have not listed the year of your truck and I usually work on Chevy cars and not trucks. So, I can't look it up and see if it is the same style as on the cars.

People are saying "pads", like most Fords, but, does it only have one pad with a adjuster bar? Some times on the Fords (explorers etc.), the internal drum brake shoes can catch, but, I do not think the Chevy truck is that design.

For a dragging wheel and what is probably off road conditions, I would pull the wheel first and see if you have something caught in the shield/pad/bar. If anything is going to catch debris, it is usually the RR.

That being said try
