deal or no deal
hey guys. recently i have been concidering buying an extra truck to use as a wark truck, to keep from beating up my truck. i found a nice old 1992 F-250 7.3 IDI non turbo. its in great shape, with rims and tires, and a 5 speed (yay!). its 4x4 with only 165,000 original miles. the paint is faded and it has a few small scuffs here and there. but, all in all its in good shape, with a like new interior. the only problem with it is that the gauges seem to be getting intermittent voltage. but, its a nice old truck, and runs pretty impressive. the lot wants $3700 on the road, them taking care of everything. i am concidering it a bit right now. what do you guys think? is it a good deal?

i just looked at one from that year on a lot around here last year and they were asking 8k for it. and it had over 150k miles on it. it ran great, looked brand new, and i wouldnt have thought twice about paying that for it. but trucks do tend to cost a lot more around where i live though. i noticed on autotrader/ebay, etc. that the same truck i could get here for 8k was selling in other places for 5k. so location does factor in a lot with the price. but by the time i fly out there, buy gas driving back, food, hotel, etc i would end up paying more for a truck i couldnt even test drive than i would the one here in town. so factor that into your decision before buying a truck 2k miles away just because its 2k dollars less.
but back to your question..... book value on that truck in good condition, with no upgrades, is $3500. so i dont think thats asking too much, especially if that price covers sales tax too. i looked around for a long time and found a 97 psd with 175k miles for $4500. but after i put new ball joints, water pump, tranny, front and rear main seals, clutch, tires, etc i was up to about 8k. just my opinion, but if it doesnt need any fixing up, thats a good deal.
