I have a 2002 7.3 I had the rear wells fixed once by ford for rust through (inside out). it started coming back through again. How many of you guys out there are having the same issue. i see a lot of our truck stsarting to turn into rust buckets. Its a shame considering these trucks cost 50k (some). You would think they would have had the rust thing down to a science by now. Any ideas how to repair it once and forall? thanks jeff
The best thing to do overall is replace the bed with a new 08 or 09 take off bed. You can get a 8ft bed for anywhere between 1000-1500 bucks complete and they are easy to find at many truck body shops. If you have a 6 foot they are very hard to find but if you take your time you can find they. Call truck body places, dealers, and big auto recyclers. A 6 foot will run you 1800-2500 doesnt make much sence its less material but they are a harder find so worth more. Then if you do that POR 15 the bed underside and try to remove the foam ford put its the rear quaters that holds the mostiure, salt, dirt ect and por15 in there. They want the beds to rot so you have to buy a new truck!!! You mite wanna check your lower doors too... hate to jynx you but wen the bed goes ussually the lower doors are too.
My 2002 bed started the same thing, and actually about a year ago, I HAD to replace the cross members on the bed, because they were no longer supporting the bed anymore. 6' beds around here, in the same condition as mine were $3000 dollars! I ended up with a tool body.

Move to a state that doesnt coat everything with salt in the winter, haha. If you get a new bed, have it undercoated with either Rhino Lining or Line-x. That should eliminate all possible rusting. POR-15 any rust spots you have now before they get too big. I was crawling around under mine last week and noticed a few spots cropping up Only bad thing about living here is the rust.
