Ideling Issues
I have been through this top to bottom. I have 82 F-150 w/351W out of 74 torino. I recently rebuilt the lower end, ran great. Decided it needed a little more cam and flow. I had a set of TFS, decided not to use and went with a ported Gt-40 heads w/ 2.02 and 1.65, aluminum performer, edelbrock 1406 and am HEI distributor. The truck ran great with HEI, Performer and Carb. Put the new cam in and the heads, with the right o-ring and timing marks lined up, set the roller rocker to zero lash and have re-set 3 times now.
Now to the fun part... The trucks runs great when cold with the chock engaged, kick off the truck still runs pretty good but sounds like it is missing sometimes. The main problem is when the truck is warmed up and I shut it down for more than 10 minutes it will start sometimes difficultly some time easily but seems like it is running on 4 cylinders, as soon as I put it in drive or reverse it wants to die, I drive it until it shifts into 2nd and at the next stop sign or light it runs great idling back to normal and all. Any idea's I am fresh out.
I have cleaned the carb, sea foamed the engine, check plugs and voltage and mt vacuum varies some days but never drops below 17 usually between 17-19. I am running a after market electric fuel pump. I am thinking re-build the carb with bigger jets? Any idea about jet sizing? Am I barking up the wrong tree?
