Hey, i recently rebuilt a 4160 Holley 600cfm vac secondary carb and i believe it's missing a sealing plate in the secondary metering system. It has the power valve cavity on the secondary side of the body (no power valve with this model carb in secondary system, only in the primary) and i believe it needs this plate along with the metering plate. Am i correct? The carb runs like crap and will not accelerate smoothly at all! Its on an older 5.0 that is known to be fine otherwise. Hope someone here knows more than me about Holleys and can help out! Thanks all!
i may be wrong on this one, but if you open the secondaries at idle on the 4160 you experience a HUGE bog, or your fuel is too hot or you float is too high (too much fuel readily available to get dumped into the venturis) hmm if only i took a couple pics when my carb was apart...
Check out the Holley website. Downloadable parts breakdown, instructions etc. Their tech staff is great if you call them. Only tech support I have found that speak English as their primary language.
Yes you are correct in the fact it's missing. The metering (large) gasket goes on then the missing plate and a thin black gasket then the metering plate held by 6 special screws. There's most likely internal leakage between metering circuits. Can you get a decent idle?
kuskoal, yes you are wrong. one of the very reasons i use holley carbs is because they don't bog (ya never open secondaries at idle anyway). as i stated, it's a vacume secondary, no fuel dump. thanks for your willing to help though! -- kaboom10, i was leaning towaeds having to need the sealing plate (thin one) because of the cavity in the secondary side of the main body. the idle is perfect! Changed the plugs and it seems to be smooth on accel now. Dunno guys but i'm gonna try to find the seling plate and put it in whenever i find one. Holley doesn't seem to list this part for sale anywhere. Thanks all, i'll let ya know what happens if i ever find one!

Reason: clarify
kaboom10, i already had that pdf and it does list the plate in the blowup (108-22) but doesn't list it in available parts (go figure). Yes, as i described earlier, i have the power valve cavity. Guess i'll have to call or email to aquire one. Keeping my fingers crossed that it stays running smooth for the time being till i get one!
Guys, read my post. kaboom10, you're right! It's the secondary metering sealing plate. Not the metering plate or gaskets. I have the gaskets which came in the rebuild kit i purchased when i rebuilt it. I stated that the "sealing plate" ( p.n. 108-22) seemed to be missing from the carb. This part seems to be a hard one to buy.
