Only if your truck has cataylst & EVAP. It being a '78 F100, it does. The gas tank vent hose goes to the charcoal canister on the passenger's side frame below the battery.
The non-vented & vented gas tanks are whole different animals.
Regular hoses will soak up the feul and become gummy, bloated if you will, and then tear easily. I didn't just hear this from someone, I did it with my feul lines. Not cool. Brake fluid also does this to any sealing material except for natural rubber. Found that out the hard way too. You can buy the right stuff through LMC or others. They didnt sell these yet when I needed them but I used to work for a hydraulics repair shop and used some aeroquip suction hoses we just had laying around that were rated for gasoline so mine didn't cost me anything. If your around heavy equiptment or other hydraulics, you could maybey scrounge some up.
I put in the 38 gal. tank in my truck with not vent on top and the infeed tubes where diferent like yours. If I would do it again I would cut a hole on top an vent it to whatever. But what I did was tee off the smaller fill line and vent that to the inner space between the inner box and the outer box. That doesn't work too bad. IT is slow to fill but I think that would happen with the regular fill anyway. It was opposite like your setup, but you can plub it to the otherside, no problem. I would use fuel line though. Been over 10 years like that in my truck, working good.
yeah, i found out that oreilleys sells filler hose by the foot....i did some searching on here and duh....i can just not put a hole in the top and just get a vented cap
i found out why my filler tubes are backwards,...apparently it depends on if you have the valve on top....i didnt realize that i was buying one without the valve, oh well i got it figured out anyway
I just ordered a new tank for my 75 truck without the vent/valve on top at Advance and it's going to cost $112.00. Not too bad. I'm going to get a new sending unit but the best price I found on them was at Advance for $65.00. Are there any cheaper prices out there?
