what does it do

I see alot of people do the FPR shim, does it just give you better throttle respond, or does it give you a little more hp??

With higher fuel pressure in the rail, yes... slightly ebtter throttle response and in my own mind, provides a little more compensation for the firing sequence between cylinders 6 and 8 (8 is righte behind 6 and also fires immediately after 6 and they are both at the end of a deadheaded fuel rail). If, however, you've done either the cross-connect kit from DFA or some other version of a regulated return kit, then the issue of 6 and 8 has already been addressed and all you'll get from the FPR is mroe responsiveness.

Keep in mind, though, the amount of benefit will depend mainly on how healthy your fuel pump is today. If your pump is weak, then shimming your FPR may help you regain some of the originally designed responsiveness. If your pump is healthy, the bennies may not be as great.

It raises the fuel presure just a bit which does make a nice difference in power.

ok thanks guys, i'll have to get a fuel pressure gauge for under the hood, what is everyones pressure at idle? What is everyone using for a shim? Just wondering normally how much hp would a guy gain from this?

Have you heard of Charles Ledger, The Dieselman? Here's his site: dieselmann's Page I feel he keeps things simple without a lot of unneeded mods, but at the same time I believe him to be knowledgeable and meticulous.

I asked him about shimming the FPR. Here's what he told me: Charles Ledger wrote:

Take it for what it's worth.

I almost started to make a rude comment. I know folks, totally out of character for me. Now that this is off my chest, there is good reason to run more fuel. Fuel is required to make power. More power needs more fuel, period. This is like 1+1=duh???

There is such a thing as too much fuel pressure on the stock pump. Alas, all you idiots out there with after market pumps, filters, lines, regulators, what a bunch of suckers you are. You should have fixed the problem.
